Specialized Myka FSR

The 2010 Myka FSR Rim Womens Recreational Mountain Bike from Specialized has changed a bit from previous years. The design is a little softer, and the shock positioning has been lowered and put on 2 bearings for an even more comfortable ride than before. The color options are now black and brown with nary a bit of pink in sight. The seat is sleeker, while maintaining the same level of cushioning as before. The handle bars now feature a specialized decorative waffle lock tooling on the grips for better grab as well as comfort and aesthetics. The paint design is a little more contemporary than previous models.

What Specialized has not changed on the 2010 Rim is the X Fusion 02RLA rear shock - custom tuned for the Myka Rim, the Shimano front and rear derailleurs, and the RockShox Tora SLite Le Femme fork. The 2010 Myka FSR Rim is still light-weight and still less expensive than other comparable bikes, thanks to the M4 tubing in the frame. The brakes are still Avid SD3 and provide excellent stopping power. The tires and pedals remain virtually unchanged.

The question that remains, then, is how does the Myka ride?

There is very little question that the full-suspension makes a real difference to any ride over rough and uneven terrain, and the 2010 Myka FSR Rim is an excellent example. Bumps and dips are hardly felt compared to their impact when riding hard tail bikes. The Specialized Myka FSR Rims condensed frame is perfect for shorter riders with a smaller reach. Those with shorter arms do not have to feel they have reduced control since they are not having to stretch excessively to reach the handle bars.

The X-Fusion shock is sufficiently customizable (with the Sag-O-Meter) to accommodate a fairly wide weight range, so heavier riders should get as much effect and performance from it as light ones.

The La Femme fork provides a lighter coil spring than on other bikes, which can be adjusted for a riders weight or for traveling on less bumpy terrain where the suspension is less needed.

Where the Specialized Myka FSR Rim Womens Recreational Mountain Bike really performs is on those uphill rides. Unlike other full suspension bikes, the FSR Rim does not drag in the rear on the way up. It maintains almost as much high performance and control on the way up as it does on smoother rides and on the way back downhill, and all without sacrificing maneuverability and speed.

The Myka FSR Rim is unquestionably an excellent full suspension bike for the price, but Specialized has made it hard to beat at any price because it really does ride as well as more expensive full suspension models. The Rim would definitely make a wonderful first full suspension bike for a less experienced rider, but this Womens FSR is no less fun for a woman who has been riding trails for a long time, especially if this is her first switch away from hard tails.
