Titus Racer-X
The light, optimized 6069 aluminum tube set keeps it lively on the trail with 100MM of rear wheel travel. The confidence in the ride over tough terrain, deep drops and steep climbs can be attributed to the durability of the bike. Beyond just the solid feel of the construction, features like sealed bearing on the main pivot, butted aluminum stays and forged dropouts make the build dependably durable. Traditionally, Titus does not take any shortcuts here. The range of Titus Racer-X full suspension mountain bikes includes a titanium model, the Racer-X-TI., and the lightweight Carbon Racer-X. Kits for these are comparable, but you will invest an additional $1,500 to $2,000.
The body friendly Racer-X offers a XXS and XS frame sizes accommodate an 80mm travel forks. S, M, L and XL frame sizes are designed for 100mm forks. Frames for 26 inch wheels offer a top tube length that ranges from 20 inches to 24.6 inches. For 29 inch wheels, top tube length range starts at 23.25 inches and tops out at 25.5 inches. This translates to enough choices in frame geometry to fit nearly every rider comfortably and still deliver the speed and climb Titus promises.
Depending upon the mountain bike kit chosen or offered in the store, your brakes will vary, but only in brand and style not in quality. The Mountain I and II are most common and feature Avid Juicy 5 and Shimano XT, respectively for 2008 models and Magura Louise, Magura Marta for 2009. The 2008 change to the Magura brakes is generally considered an upgrade in reliability and performance insofar as they are quieter, easier to set up and stop very effectively.
The saddle on the Mountain I Kit 2009 kit is the WTB Rocket Comp whose split design varies from the 2008 Kit 1 featuring the Fitz Nizene Sport. For Kit II and III on 2009 models you will find the Fizik Gobi XM, which was only featured on the III and Ultimate Mountain Kit in 2008. All featured saddles are high-quality products, known for comfort and strength. A great saddle is one you forget about once you get on it. If you notice it, it is probably a negative.
The goal is a narrow, but comfortably sized saddle that is light enough and a shape that makes you forget about the saddle on the ride. Titus choices for the Racer-X models make the grade, whether you are getting the newest model or not.
With your body easily positioned at proper angles for the terrain and action, the best predictor of climb and manageability is your skill, followed by the quality of the bike. Titus Racer-X Full Suspension Mountain Bikes do not disappoint.
